ABOUT Claudia

My current work centers around relief printmaking using traditional block print mediums and linoleum carving work. I have been committed to this artistic practice for the last four years through practice and presentation. Relief printmaking has provided me the ability to reproduce and present my work in many forms. While a percentage of printmaking is designated for prints themselves, a larger portion of my work has been exploring textile printmaking. Through this practice I have been able to carve out a niche audience that values custom apparel, homegoods, and other textile work. I am intentional about observing the experience that my community makes as a response to my work and I utilize it as a form of inspiration.
My past work has formally been in painting and fine arts. This area of concentration was the journey in which I felt I could strongly pursue all the inspirations and interests that I needed to best portray my work. I use acrylic and watercolor mediums with a subject matter focused on identities told through portraiture work. Many of the themes behind this work suggest liminal space as it embodies human forms. This area of work is strongly engaged in the addition of techniques, inspirations, and mediums to best convey my process. As a result, the journey to perfect my painting techniques became the introspective reflection of the concepts of adding and subtracting. This is the time in which I pivoted to relief printmaking practices. This work valued the subtraction of the subject matter to best represent theme, voice, and intention. In contrast, these two artistic disciplines have organically complimented the reasons in which art is the vehicle for communication.
